Professional Development Workshops / Speakers

 

March 3rd, 2016

 

SMA hosted one workshop and three professional speakers during this semester in the following categories:

Krissie Doppelheuer from Cal U's Career & Professional Development Center, came in to give our members a workshop on building a better resume. 
 
 
SPEAKERS: 
 
Taylor Simmons, GreenStar
 
GreenStar's sales manager, Taylor Simmons, came in to briefly discuss internship possibilities within GreenStar Termite and Pest Control as well as the importance of having sales experience.

Networking, ConTinder, and Fashion Show

 

April 12th, 2016

 

SMA helped and participated in this year's Career and Professional Development Center's Networking Event and Fashion Show (Wear This, Not That!)
 
The Student Marketing Association was also able to do their own 10 minute skit, ConTinder. ConTinder, is a live recruiting game show (similar to a live dating game show). One recruiter chose between four contenders. 
 
 
 
 
 
 

FALL 2015

#OperationNOLA
 

November 9, 2015

 

#OperationNOLA is a professional development project that consisted of club members getting together and find a way to raise much needed funds to help make this years American Marketing Association's Collegiate Conference affordable to our members. 
 
This project insisted of creating a creative hashtag, a video, a message,  and a social media strategy.

Professional Development Workshops

 

October 8th, 5th, 2015 & November 4th, 2015

 

SMA hosted three different workshops during this semester in the following categories:
 
1. LinkedIn 
 
Whitney Moore, graduate assistant at Cal U's Career & Professional Development Center, came in to give our members a brief explainaton of how important LinkedIn is to the job market / networking. Members were also showned how to set up their own profiles.
 
2. Excel
 
Dr. Adnan Chawdhry, Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems, came in to expand our member's knowledge in the program of Microsoft Excel. During this workshop our members learned to used formulas built into Excel (Loan Payment Formula), the benefits of using pivot tables, and charts to help give a better representation of data. 
 
3. Life After Graduation 
 
Maggie McBroom, Recruiting Director with Northwestern Mutual, came in to host a club talk about Life After Graduation. During this club talk, Maggie discussed about budgeting, money management benefits, taxes, and overall financial security. 
 
 

SPRING 2015

Cal U SMA is dedicated to offering professional development opportunities to all members to assist in building their business and marketing competencies. We achieve this through networking with professionals, our newly established mentor program, the utilization of campus resources, and brand-new, innovative workshops.

 

Mock Networking Reception & Etiquette Dinner
 

April 9, 2015

 

SMA participated and worked Career Services and SAI Leadership's Mock Networking Reception & Etiquette Dinner. At this event attendees got to network and establish etiquette tips.
 
Three reasons to attend next year:
 
1. You'll learn practical tips to prepare you for employment interviews that take place during lunch/dinner
 
2. You'll have a chance to learn and practice your networking skills with employers
 
3. You'll get a four-course meal for $5 (refundable after you attend the program)
