10 THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU GRADUATE FROM CAL U

Updated version of a blog post created by SMA Alumni:

RED = NEW

Here at Cal U, it is a place where you have to create your own fun. We thought it would be a good idea to help newly incoming students and seniors who are soon graduating and put together a small list of things to do before they leave this weird little town.

1. See a movie at Vulcan Theatre

If you aren’t in the student union often, you may not know that Calu has their own theatre. They show FREE movies that are out of theaters, not yet out on DVD. They also provide FREE popcorn!

2. Attend a Bucket Night.

Or all of them, we don’t judge here at Cal U.

*We do not encourage underage drinking!

3. Go to Ohiopyle

For those who don't know about Ohiopyle... shame on you. For those who do know but still have yet to gone.... shame on you. "There is so much to do and view in and around Ohiopyle. From Biking, hiking, kayaking and whitewater rafting, adventure camps, cross country skiing to a guided tour through two of Frank Lloyd Wright designed homes, Historic Sites, Rock climbing, Fishing, Golf and Ski and more. There is something for everyone in Ohiopyle so Get out of Town and come to Ohiopyle!"

4. Attend the Rush Brunch on the Weekends

We don’t need to explain what the Rush is, everyone has eaten there and everybody has a love/hate relationship with the dining hall. Yet somehow after a long night the Rush brunch on the weekend is a “gold mine.” If you have yet to eat in the newly renovated Rush, then you need to experience it!

5. Climb the Towers

Now this is something only the real “Calu 4 Lifers” will have said they have done at least once. Even though the two towers outside of Duda Hall are chained off, there is a way in. The only thing you have to do is find someone who has already done it and they will show you.

6. Play in the Fountains

You are lying if you never thought about it before. Come on, we have two beautifully crafted water fountains on campus just waiting for a good time. If your really feeling crazy ride a bike or skateboard through.

7. Join the Student Marketing Association

As the invention of the internet gave way to an explosion of technological capability, it was only a matter of time before social networking websites were an integral part of our lives. We all live a symbiotic relationship with our social media profiles. With this realization on my mind as college student, it was of upmost importance to join a club dedicated to the art of marketing, advertising, and branding. The Student Marketing Association has done more for me than any class prior. The Student Marketing Association does not require its members to be majoring in marketing or even business. And for that, we are open to everyone for their expertise in the respected field they wish to study. It has given me the opportunity to meet the senior leaders of the Cal U campus and befriend them. Along with this, I have begun to sculpt my future as a leader of tomorrow with the drive to lead today.

8. Attend an Event Sponsored by SABUG

California University of Pennsylvania’s Student Activities Boa

rd (SABUG) is in charge of bringing events to our university. These events include concerts, comedians, magicians, and even hypnotists! Some previous performers includes country music legend, Kenny Rogers, rock ‘n’ roll icons, Bob Dylan and John Fogerty, and as well as comedians, Nick Swardson, Carlos Alazraqui and Cedric Yarborough.

9. Go on the Gateway Clipper

The Gateway Clipper is “the symbol of Pittsburgh’s river renaissance.” This is something you should experience at least once, or maybe twice if you enjoy riding along the Mon in a beautiful boat while singing and dancing with your closest friends!

10. Go to the Chuck Wagon

A hearty, home-style breakfast is hard to come by in our little college town, but fortunately, there’s the Chuck Wagon. Located along Route 40 West in Centerville, a mere 10 minutes from Cal, is this small that is renowned for its awesome breakfasts. From home fries to blueberry pancakes, the Chuck Wagon has what you need to satisfy your morning hunger. Lunch is also on the menu. It is open every day of the week; 6am-3pm on Mondays through Saturdays, and 6am-2pm on Sundays. Find yourself here during the week, or on one of those foggy weekend mornings. Either way, there is no better place around to start your day. If you have never been here, you should definitely check it out! Just keep your eyes peeled for the wagon wheel!

We hope you have enjoyed our list of “Ten Things to do Before You Graduate Calu,” and keep your eyes open for our next post!
